14/06/2010
‘Dogs, Cats and Small Animals all hoping to score a new home this world cup’

World Cup fever has gripped the Nation and now the animals at the RSPCA Coventry Animal Centre have joined in the fun. Several of the centres most needy canines have picked a team to support during the competition. All the dogs are hoping that there lucky teams may help them find wonderful new homes and everyone is hoping they could be settled down with a new family ready to enjoy the world cup final on 11th July.

The dogs desperate to find a new homes took part in a toy lottery each picking a toy with a different team on. They will now follow their teams throughout the world cup, hoping their chosen teams good luck rubs off on their chances of finding a new home.

Kat McEvoy Animal Care Assistant says ‘With the whole country caught up in the world cup we really wanted to get the animals involved especially the dogs. We picked six of our dogs to take part as they all have their own special stories and are here through no fault of their own.’

The six dogs Sheva, Ruby, Spike, Heidi, Zara and Holly have all been in kennels for far too long and desperately need understanding owners to come forward and help them find then new homes. Each of the dogs is supporting one of the six bookies favourites.

Louise Labram Centre Supervisor said ‘Rehoming has been great during 2010 for the dogs at the centre, but some people turn a blind eye to some of the more needy dogs in our care. Many of the dogs taking part in the world cup challenge are struggling with kennel life which puts off potential owners’

The animal centre is urging everyone in Coventry, Nuneaton and Rugby who is considering adopting a Dog to come and visit some of the amazing characters we have here. The Cats, Rabbits and Small Animals will all be joining in the world cup fun hoping to score a new home during the games.

The dogs and there teams:

Shiva backing England
Shiva is a beautiful 2 year old American Bulldog who arrived at the centre a few weeks ago. She had been in kennels for sometime at another centre and was unable to find a new home and is now hoping to find a home in Coventry. Poor Shiva hates kennel life and spends every day in Reception welcoming all the visitors.

Ruby backing Brazil
Ruby is supporting Brazil which is perfect as she has a carnival character full of energy and lots of life. Ruby is a cross breed around 1 year old, Rubys been at the centre now since early February as she arrived pregnant and successfully raised a beautiful litter of puppies. All her puppies found homes and unfortunately Ruby was left on the shelf.

Holly backing Argentina
Holly is a 18 month old collie X who arrived was recently returned to the centre through no fault of her own. Holly was traumatised in her previous home by over zealous children and therefore she requires an adult only home where she can be socialised with children gradually. She is a very loving companion and would make the most perfect companion when she is given the time to form a bond.

Heidi backing Germany
Heidi is a 10 month old SBT X who arrived at the centre in May this year. Heidi is a lovely girl but after being attacked by another dog has become very nervous of her other canine friends which is making life in kennels for her very difficult. Heidi is looking for a home where she is the only pet so she can have all the attention from everybody in the family.

Zara backing Spain (Pictured)
Zara is a very special 9 month old GSD X who has been at the centre for a few months trying to find her new home. She is a lovely girl but after suffering at the hands of her previous owners is very nervous of new people. Once out of her shell Zara is a loving and sociable dog who will be a loyal and loving companion. She would benefit from an experienced owner

Spike backing Holland
Spike has his Clogs at the ready in the hope of hot trotting it to his new home during the world cup. Spike is an 18 month old large crossbreed he is a lovely boy who has spent far too long in kennels. No one can understand why Spike has been unable to find a home he is a big bouncy boy who needs plenty of exercise in return he will offer loads of love for the right owner.
