Two cats callously dumped on the driveway in a small carrier
19/05/2010
On Wednesday 13th May at approximately 8.30pm, two cats were callously dumped in one small carrier at the very bottom of the centre’s driveway.

Had it not been for a caring passer by who alerted onsite staff, the two cats would have been left for over 12 hours with no food or water in a very cramped environment.

Glenn Mayoll, centre manager who lives onsite, fortunately heard the passer by calling for help. Glenn said, “I was in my garden at the time when I heard someone shouting. As I approached the gentleman who had brought the carrier from the driveway he explained that he was driving past and couldn’t bear to continue without stopping to help. If it hadn’t been for this kind man, the cats would’ve most certainly stayed there all night until a member of staff came into work the following morning”.

The cats, who staff have now named Blaze and Pandora are thought to be male and female siblings, approximately 2-3 years of age. They are now settled into the cattery where they will spend the next 5-7 days undergoing a health and behaviour assessment before going up for rehoming.

Louise Labram, centre supervisor, adds, “Abandoning animals is a heartless act in all manner of ways; the centre is full to the brim with cats at this moment in time and with people dumping more on us we are struggling to find the space for them. Ultimately it delays the cats coming in that are on our public waiting list and also those that are being neglected in homes where RSPCA Inspectors are involved”.

She continues, “We are urging people to visit the centre and consider rehoming a cat from us. Not only does this help a cat currently in need of a loving new home but also helps us in ensuring we can provide the best possible care and attention to the next cat that comes our way”.

The centre is calling for any witnesses or anyone who may know who the cats belong to, to call the RSPCA National cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999.
