18/08/2009 Animal Centre in final plea for funds Phase 1 of the long awaited rebuild at the RSPCA Coventry Animal Centre is nearing completion with only a few weeks left to go before the builders move off site. After nine months without dogs whilst the kennels were replaced the centre hopes to open its doors and get back to helping the hundreds of dogs that pass through the centre each year. The animal centre is calling on the people of Coventry and surrounding areas one more time to help equip the centre. Along with the dilapidated kennels the equipment and fencing within the centre were also falling into disrepair. Replacing these items is likely to cost several thousand pounds and the centre is appealing to everyone to help where they can. Glenn Mayoll Centre Manager says ‘We appreciate that in this difficult economic climate everyone has to watch what they are spending but we have to ask once more for some help. Even the smallest gift can make a huge difference; we need everything from Clipboards that cost a £1 to industrial sized washing machines costing £2000’ The animal centre remained open for Cats and Small Animals for the duration of the build to try and continue generating income towards the daily running costs. However due to the difficulties with the building work on site and the current economic climate the number of visitors has reduced dramatically seriously affecting income to the centre. Along with the reduction in volunteers the centre has also seen a reduction in both cat and small animal rehoming. Louise Labram Centre Supervisor said ‘2009 has been a great year for the centre finally seeing the rebuild come to fruition but the rebuild has severely affected our animal rehoming and income. We also need adopters the whole region is currently gripped by a cat crisis with hundreds of cats looking for new homes. If you are in a position to make a donation to help the centre you can do so in many ways over the phone by calling 024 76 336616 or our website www.rspca-coventry.org.uk and hit the ‘donate online now’ button. Alternatively call into the centre on Coundon Wedge Drive. The centre in Coventry exist entirely separately from the National Society and raises all the monies it need to stay open within Coventry and the surrounding areas. |
