Centre Facing Crisis - Full to Bursting & Desperate for Funds
19/08/2008
The RSPCA Coventry Animal Centre is appealing for animal lovers to come to their rescue

The animal centre is packed full with over 100 dogs, cats and small animals desperate to find a new home with only a handful of the centres animals on reserve. The centre is also facing a financial crisis as income to the centre for its day to day running costs of £800 per day has fallen dramatically.

The animal centre has already rehomed 568 animals this year smashing the numbers of 2007. But with waiting lists continuing to build up and animals coming in thick and fast from our inspectors we need to rehome ever more to make space for all those animals which need our help.

Glenn Mayoll Animal Centre Manager says ‘We really need lots of support now more than ever to see us through these difficult financial times. I would like to encourage anyone thinking of adopting a new family pet to consider adopting one from the centre. We would like to see lots of people coming round the centre to have a look at all the Dogs, Cats and small animals we have on offer’

Two of the longest staying animals are Strawberry & Hazel two rabbits that have been here for a 5 months and are desperate to find themselves a new home. They are both lovely rabbits who need an understanding owner with lots of space for them to run and exercise in.

The animal centre is also keen for members of the public to come forward and help with the financial situation. The centre has seen a 50% decrease on its annual income which the centre relies upon to keep open. There are lots of ways to help raise funds for the centre you can make an donation on the website or over the phone by credit or debit card alternatively by post or raising money through an event and dropping the donation into the centre.

Glenn continues ‘Times have been really difficult and we have seen the income for the centre continue to go down for the first half of the year. It does leave us wondering how we will continue if the trend carries on there is a massive need for an animal centre in Coventry. However if we do not receive the financial support there is a real risk the centre may have to close’

Many of the animals are well socialised and could live with other cats, dogs and children. For further information on all the animals or to make a donation please visit our website www.rspca-coventry.org.uk, call 024 76 336616 or visit the centre on Coundon Wedge Drive.
