Rebuild Update17/08/2008 Things are really starting to take shape for our centre rebuild as one of our dedicated volunteers has already begun the demolition of the kennels we were no longer able to use. The centre would like to send a massive thank you to Tony Goodman and his wife Val for their support to the centre and to Tony’s willingness to diversify his normal role as a dog walker to begin our rebuild project. We would also like to send thanks to Kay Brandist our Appeal/Project Manager for driving the rebuild forward and bringing us to where we are now. Kay’s completed her contract with the centre in June and has already begun many more new challenges. The centre really would not be this far on with the planned build without her expertise and knowledge. We all wish her the very best for the future. Onto the rebuild, after a few shocks regarding the increased costs involved for the build it looks likely that we will only be able to rebuild the kennels and support facilities in this stage of the build. Although disappointing we are ecstatic that finally we will be able to replace the dilapidated kennels and go back to running the animal centre at full capacity. The tender documents are being prepared now and should be sent out to those who have registered an interest in the next few weeks. As soon as these are returned and the decision is made on the contractor we should have a start date for work to begin. We are aiming for October of this year at the very latest. The other sections of the build including the new reception, small animals and staff facilities will take place as soon as the finance is available. The centre has been facing a rough time regarding incoming finances as general donations and legacies have been slow to come in this year. This is leaving the centre running at a considerable loss on a monthly basis. Lots of plans are in place to combat this including a jam packed fundraising calendar for the last part of 2008 and the whole of 2009. We are also about to launch a new legacy leaflet to encourage more potential donors to remember us in there will as we are so reliant on these funds. |
