Adoption Stories

All week we'll be bringing you stories of past residents, now happily living in their new home.

SHAUN
Shaun the Angora rabbit was adopted by Abi Huggins from Rugby in March this year.
Abi visited the Coventry RSPCA to look for a new pet because she strongly believes in giving a home to a rescue animal.
Abi had wanted a rabbit as a pet for sometime and didn’t mind what breed or colour they were. Abi spent some time chatting to Caroline, the centre's small animal ACA and discovered that Shaun was the rabbit most in need of a home. Shaun had been at the centre for some weeks probably because he is an angora rabbit therefore needing regular grooming. Abi was not deterred and once she took him out the pen and knew he was the one for her! Abi and Shaun have a grooming routine now although alot of the time it does involve Abi running around the kitchen after Shaun once he's spotted that grooming brush!
Abi says "Shaun is a fantastic rabbit with bags of personality". Shaun lives with 5 cats and he adores them all. He often cuddles up to one particular cat and they've event learnt to play. Abi describes Shaun as "a wonderful pet that makes me very happy and I love him to pieces".

MR FRODO
Rabbit Mr Frodo was adopted by Mrs Julie Barnsley from Coventry in June this year.
Mr Frodo was one of the many stray or abandoned rabbits that come to the centre every year. He was underweight, had overgrown teeth and his claws and coat was in terrible condition. He was diagnosed with a serious skin condition and had to be isolated from the other rabbits. He underwent treatment; antibiotics, creams and regular baths. Some weeks later he was given the all clear and became available for rehoming.
Mrs Barnsley knew about Mr Frodo's plight because the small animal assistant ACA Caroline is her daughter. Julie says "When I first daw Mr Frodo I knew I wanted to rehome him". She describes him as being a beautiful coloured rabbit with a lovely character.
Mrs Barnsley brought up her other rabbit Miffy to meet Mr Frodo and they were a perfect match. Mr Frodo now spends his days lying in the sun wobbling his belly and eating his favourite treats cucumber and raisins.
