Dog Tied To Tree By Quiet County Road
18/07/2010
The RSPCA is currently caring for an emaciated greyhound cross which was callously abandoned by a quiet county road in Warwickshire.

A passing motorist on the B4100 near the village of Gaydon saw the dog sitting on the road on Sunday 11 July. The dog had been tied to a tree by an extendable lead but had chewed through the lead and was sitting on the road. The caring motorist took the dog home before calling the RSPCA.

The young male dog is extremely underweight and is suffering from a skin condition. Vets who checked him over commented on his long nails which suggest he has been kept in a domestic home environment.

"I am dismayed that someone thought so little of their pet that they callously abandoned him in such an appalling way," said Animal Welfare Officer Ben Jones. "Not only has this young dog been underfed for some time but he has been discarded on a quiet country road without a thought for his welfare. We must find out who was responsible for this offence and I appeal to anyone who recognises the dog or who witnessed anything suspicious to please contact me."

"We have called the dog Teddy. He is undergoing treatment at our Coventry Animal Home. He is a really friendly boy but is nervous which is perfectly understandably considering what he has been through. The person who found him said that he jumped in their car instantly and he did the same thing to me when I opened my van so he has clearly been used to travelling and appears to have been a pet which makes his abandonment all the more shocking," said Ben.

Anyone with information about Teddy can call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999 leaving a message for AWO Ben Jones.
